More than 24 thousand hectares of cotton cultivated

Aleppo, SANA-The areas planted with cotton crop in Syria for this season amounted to 24048 hectares out of the planned area for cultivation of 57365 hectares with an implementation rate of 41 percent in the provinces of Hama, Aleppo, Raqqa, Deir Ezzor, Hasaka and al-Ghab area.

Director of the Cotton Office, Ahmed Jumaa, said that the planned area of cultivated land has decreased because the high cost of production requirements and the unsuitability of the weather conditions for agriculture in terms of cold weather and the continuation of rain with the beginning of the cultivation period.

Jumaa said that the new price of 4,000 pounds per kilogram of cotton encourage and help to incentivize farmers to expand cultivation of next year’s crop.
