Syria draws nil-nil with New Zealand in group competitions at World Cup finals

Santiago, SANA – Syria drew nil-nil with New Zealand on Thursday in the second round of the group competitions at the World Cup finals held in Chile.

The Syrian national football team thus picked up its first point in the championship after it lost its first match to the Paraguayan team 4-1, coming in the third place in Group 6 in goal difference ahead of New Zealand.

France topped the group with 3 points, equal to Paraguay.

The Syrian team will have to win its match with the French team, scheduled next Sunday, in order for it to qualify for the second leg of the championship, a hard game to be since the French team is Europe’s champion and one of the teams with the chance to win the title.
